The grid at its limit: how do we unlock more capacity from our existing electricity grid?
This call has been launched by The Grid Innovation Alliance consisting of Eight European High Voltage grid operators, they are looking for innovative grid enhancing technologies.
What are they looking for
Genuinely new technology that gets more out of the grid that is already there. Better ways to see what the grid is really doing, smarter ways to steer power flows, more capacity and longer life from existing assets, and innovative approaches for both system operation and asset management from outside the energy sector altogether. Technologies that grid operators already use are out of scope, so this is a call for what comes next rather than more of the same.
The strongest technologies are invited to pitch in person in Switzerland on 9 and 10 November 2026. If they pass the pitch and they will run a proof of concept with participating operators. That means proving their technology to several European grid operators at once.
